Keep Fukudome

Kosuke should stay a Cub

Kosuke should stay a Cub

MLB.com is reporting there’s interest from the Cubs in acquiring Mark Teahen or David DeJesus from the Royals in exchange for Kosuke Fukudome.

Most importantly, both Royals are left-handed hitter that would nicely complete Chicago’s search for an everyday left-handed bat in the lineup.

Despite the fact both players are coming into their prime years – Teahan, 26, DeJesus, 28, they’re short on power numbers.

The plus side is both are above average fielders and could potentially move into the leadoff spot replacing Soriano.

All this being said, I’m still not convinced Fukudome is a dud.

The Japanese star proved for many years in Japan that he’s more than capable of being a first rate player in MLB.

Remember, we’re talking about a player who not only changed leagues last year but, changed countries!

Both Ichiro and Hideki Matsui improved their numbers after making the adjustment from Japan to the States, I think Fukudome will do the same.

Now, whether Lou gives him that chance is another story.

Besides, Kosuke is owed $38 million over the next three seasons…seems unlikely Kansas City would be willing to take on such a large contract, and that may prove big for the Cubs next year.
