Cubs In Need Of Padres

San Diegocubs

The Cubs’ roster won’t get healthy in the next three days. But, there’s a big opportunity for Chicago to get healthy in the standings while facing San Diego at Wrigley this week.

The Pads are a woeful (13-19) overall and coming off a stretch of 17 games played in 17 days. They finished the run (4-13).

They’re also (5-13) on the road this season. And, not since Jake Peavy’s win against the Mets on April 16th has the starting rotation recorded a single victory–(0-9).

Thus, many reasons for the Cubs to look forward to this three-game set.

Peavy starts the series Tuesday. And, it’s likely Lou will have all his lefties in the lineup with the Pads’ ace holding right-handers to a meek .151 average.

I’d expect to see Hoffpauir give Lee another day of rest and, Koyie Hill start for the struggling Soto.

Obviously, Harden will have little room for error against Peavy. And, Rich has not pitched well at home either–(1-1) 7.82 ERA.

Not to mention, he’s also coming off his first outing of more than six innings. So, who knows how his arm will react?

The one thing I’ll be keeping a close eye on is the Cubs’ bullpen.

For instance, how many more batters can Neal Cotts walk before he’s gone fishing? How will newbie Jose Ascanio fare in his first action with the big club? And, can Angel Guzman keep throwing effectively?

Lots of questions with the pen. Not good.

All in all, it’s a series the Cubs should win. Besides, the Padres are a club good teams beat. Enough said.
