Not even the well seasoned Lou has ever seen a baseball disappear into a pitcher’s uniform.
Fukudome’s fifth inning shot that bounced into the jersey of Houston pitcher Jeff Fulchino, ruled a base hit, was a first for Kosuke too.
I’ve seen it first hand, however, twice for that matter and in the same game, nonetheless!
Back in the day I made my Bambino League All Star team as a second baseman.
Before the All Star game we were awarded brand new jerseys to wear, mine ran a little big on me.
So big, in fact, I managed to gobble up two ground balls that scooted down the collar of my new digs off bad hops.
And both happened during the same inning! Talk about embarrassing.
I can’t remember a darn thing about the rest of the game, other than the umpire laughing at me while helping me dislodge the second belly buster. Oh, well.
Tough loss anytime Oswalt leaves in the second inning and you managed just four hits off the bullpen.
It’s going to be a long five days for Dempster. The guy beat himself with mental mistakes, but waiting for redemption is the life of a starting pitcher.
The impact Aramis makes to this lineup can’t be overstated. He’s notched an extra base hit in six straight games including three home runs and five doubles.
As long as Ramirez stays hot the Cubs will hang around first place.
Can we put the ‘Mike Fontenot as a starter’ argument to rest?
The little guy is 1-for-12 on the homestand, missed a sure bet squeeze play Monday night, and is mired in another long slump, this one being a 1-for-21 showing.
Piniella is now going with a platoon of second base between Fontenot and Jeff Baker.
I think Fontenot is best suited as a role player, so maybe the split time gets him back on the good foot?
I wouldn’t rule out Hendry going after a starting second baseman before the trade deadline, either.
Where are the Dodgers when you need them? They’ve been outscored 16-1 in two straight losses against the Cardinals. Geez.
