Sean Marshall Not A Starter
Sean Marshall sees himself as a starter, not a reliever.
At least that’s the word coming from Bruce Levine of ESPN 1000.
Funny thing is…I feel just the opposite.
Last year the lefty went 1-2 with a 3.30 ERA in 46 relief appearances. By all means, pretty good.
As a starter, however, Marshall went 2-5 with a 5.24 ERA. Pretty bad.
And that’s been the case with Marshall throughout his four years in Chicago.
When he starts he’s awful, and when he relives he’s sufficient, particularly as a lefty-specialist.
Marshall can choose to make whatever he wants of his own numbers, but if the 26-year-old can’t reason with a career 19-29 record and 4.55 ERA, so be it.
In which case the Cubs are better off trading Marshall than trying to please a guy who wants to be something he isn’t.
I’ve seen all I need to, this kid belongs in the pen.
