Cubs’ Farm No.18 In Baseball America

According to Baseball America’s ranking of the 30 MLB farm systems the Cubs come in at No.18.

Author John Manuel sums up Chicago this way: Much better than at this point last year, led by SS Starlin Castro.

Two NL Central foes landed in the bottom five, and to my surprise St. Louis is one of them. Here’s a breakdown of the Central Division that I’ve pasted together from the article.

Charie Weis Football’s Dusty Baker

I don’t give two hoots about college football. Couldn’t care less about Notre Dame’s 6-5 record, either. But Irish talk is practically unavoidable living in Chicago.

Nonetheless, I was a fan of Charlie Weis despite his disappointing record at South Bend (35-27). I thought the fat man represented the program well, but of course, winning is the bottom line…and ol’ Charlie didn’t cut it. And that, people, reminds me very much of Dusty Baker’s tenure with the Cubs.

Wrigley Field’s New Billboards

Tom Ricketts is adding billboards atop the bleachers in left field, and guess what folks, this is just the beginning.

Get ready for digital video boards, more ads on the outfield walls and plenty of ad signage erected throughout the concourse.

But as fans we must grow accustom to the changing financial landscape of the Cubs under Tom Ricketts.

And if the guy’s serious about building a championship franchise, well, that comes at the cost of selling the ballpark like the Yellow Pages.
