Cubs Should Sign Jim Edmonds

Jim Edmonds wants a swan song with St. Louis, but I wouldn’t mind seeing him as a Cub again.

Chicago needs a fourth outfielder, that role player with a little defense and just enough offense.

Edmonds has both, and more importantly, he’s willing to play for the league minimum, which certainly won’t be the case with a Jermaine Dye or Xavier Nady, or even Reed Johnson.

It’s fair to question Edmonds’ durability. He’s 39-years-old and sat out all of last season, but I loved what he did with the Cubs two years ago (.256, 19 HR & 49 RBI) and I thought he should have been resigned for ’09.

At the very least, he couldn’t have been worse than Bradley statistically, and there’s no comparing clubhouse chemistry between the two, either.

Edmonds’ game has always been a good fit at little ol’ Wrigley Field: a small centerfield and plenty of wind complementing his upper-cut swing.

So I’d let the sun set on Edmonds’ career on the North Side, he’d be a welcomed addition and I could still wear my Edmonds t-shirt with pride, too!
