Cubs’ Bullpen ‘Paper-Thin’
The Cubs will not compete for the post season with its current bullpen.
Not during an age of multi-million dollar contracts and limited pitch counts for starters.
Bruce Levine of ESPN Radio 1000 described the Cubs’ bullpen as ‘paper-thin.’ I couldn’t agree more.
Early reports on Angel Guzman’s sore shoulder have listed him as questionable throughout the spring.
And it’s possible the righty isn’t back at full-strength before Opening Day, which spells serious trouble for Jim Hendry.
Low-level free agents and Spring Training invites won’t cut it, either–Hendry’s got to make a deal.
I figure my idea would never fly–bounce Marmol back to the seventh and eighth innings and deal for a proven closer.
I mean seriously, what good is Marmol if you can’t get him the lead in the ninth inning?
Nonetheless, Hendry has less than 40 days to improve the middle-inning arms–and it’s imperative the GM trades whatever necessary to get them.
