State Of The Cubs

By bullpenbrian - June 4, 2010 - 11:52 pm Leave a comment.

This is the state of our Cubs: six-games below .500…7.5 games back of the division lead and hopeless scoring runs.

Houston’s No. 5 starter, Felipe Paulino, made 11 starts prior to Friday’s game. He lost seven of those and failed to win a single game. The Astros, meanwhile, support him with the absolute lowest run support in the major leagues –1.97 runs per game. Yet, the Cubs tagged him for one damn run…that’s it.

Aramis pops out with the bases loaded and leaves four on base for the game…Theriot leaves three runners on…10 stranded overall. Two team walks vs. eight strikeouts…1-for-6 with RISP…zero clutch hitting.

The Cubs can’t beat Pittsburgh, or a win less Paulino, or any team on the scoreboard, for that matter. Sadly, that’s the state of our Cubs…a talented but flawed team with no punch, no fight, and nearing the state of no return.

Trading Derrek Lee

By bullpenbrian - June 4, 2010 - 12:30 am 4 comments.

The Cubs should have no problem trading Derrek Lee, despite his full no-trade clause.

He’s a pro’s pro with a Gold Glove and a legitimate bat. And that’s worth trading for if you’re a contender and in need of a first baseman, like say, Anaheim is.

But that’s not the only reason Anaheim makes sense. So often we see aging players return home to ride off into the sunset, Lee is a native Californian, and the Halos are contenders, nonetheless.
