Chicago 6-14 In Last 20 vs. Pittsburgh
Barring a sweep, the Cubs could not have started the season in worse fashion. To drop a home series against the Buccos is majorly disappointing, to say the least.
Playing to the Pirates’ basement-dwelling level has become a bad habit for Chicago. In its last 20 games vs. Pittsburgh the Cubs are (6-14) having been outscored by twenty runs (91-71), which is simply pitiful.
Prior to this streak, however, Chicago dominated Pittsburgh on its way to consecutive division championships. From late September 2007 to 2009, Chicago posted a (27-6) mark against the Peg Legs outscoring them by 116 runs (234-118)!
Beating bad teams is one mark of a championship caliber club. But to consistently lose to an inferior opponent the likes of Pittsburgh is a bad habit the comes must overcome to compete.
Otherwise, Chicago will settle for keeping the Pirates company in the cellar of the NL Central. Sad yes, but true. Very true.
