1.) Cubs Links.
2.) Is Baseball Wasting Our Time?
3.) Giants Can’t Escape Bonds’ Shadow.

1.) Matthew Pouliot of Hardball Talk shares my opinion and worries about Jeff Samardzija.

*Chris Jaffe of The Hardball Times says he’s suffering from a bizarre case of optimism about the Cubs.

*Greg Pinto of Bleacher Report posted the rankings of All 30 Teams’ Chances To Win The Fall Classic. The Cubs rank 18th on his list.

*Shaun McPartlin, also from Bleacher Report, ranks the 50 Most Overrated Players in MLB History. It’s an interesting list, if for no other reason than his ranking of Pete Rose No.5 and Roger Maris No.2.

Nolan Ryan earned the top spot. Notable Cubs include: Alfonso Soriano No.48, Sammy Sosa No.30 and Nomar Garciaparra No.13.

*Below are a few Cubs notes courtesy ChicagoCubsOnline.com.

-The Cubs were charged with six errors, tied for second most in the National League. Q’s squad also turned six double plays, tied for fourth most in the National League.

-Cubs pitching struck out a league leading 55 batters.

-The Cubs are the only team in the majors without a stolen base. Darwin Barney made the Cubs only attempt on Opening Day and was thrown out at second base.

2.) Frequent BullpenBrian.com reader, Pickle, sent me a wonderful article about MLB wasting our time. Agree or disagree?

3.) Something I noticed last week while watching Tim Lincecum open the season against the Dodgers in L.A. on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. Scrolling on ESPN’s bottom line ticker were updates on the Barry Bonds trial.

World Series title, Opening Night on prime time television…it seems impossible for the Giants to escape Bonds’ ugly shadow.
