The revolving door at second base appears to be working–at least for now.
Darwin Barney, Jeff Baker & Blake DeWitt are each off to good starts at the plate.
Barney began the season hitting .308 on the home stand. He’s hit safely in each of his three starts.
DeWitt has just one start, but has appeared twice as a pinch hitter going 1-for-2 with two RBI. Although, it was a big pair of RBI as the game-winning hit last Saturday vs. Pittsburgh.
Baker made his mark Friday going 4-for-5 with a HR, four two-out RBI, and two runs scored. He’s also hit safely in four of five games.
If the threesome continues to push each other the second base by committee strategy works.
However, my best guess says Quade is still looking for an everyday second baseman.
Less than two weeks in, the race remains wide-open.
