Another Hot April For Fukudome

By bullpenbrian at 05.03.2011 Leave a comment.

Kosuke Fukudome has proven his best month offensively is April. The unfortunate part, however, are those hot starts tend to wear off pretty quickly.

Now, more than ever, the Cubs need Fukudome’s hot-hitting to carry over into May, especially with Tyler Colvin going 7-for-52 (.135) to start the season and Carlos Pena not much better at .157.

So if Fukudome continues his annual slide below mediocrity, the Cubs have virtually zero production from any of its left-handed bats. Not good.

Here’s a quick look at Fukudome’s April stats since joining Chicago in 2008:

AVG   AB   H   2B   3B   HR   RBI   BB   SO       SLG      OBP
2011 .458   48   22   1     0     0        2      10     5       .479     .552
2010 .344  64   22   4      0     5       16     13     11     .641     .443
2009 .338  71   24    6     0     4       15     16     15    .592     .461
2008 .327  98  32    8     2     1     10     19      18    .480     .436
