A few Cubs notes heading into the season’s final series this week in San Diego.

-Chicago has three players with 25 or more HR this year including Carlos Pena (28), Aramis Ramirez (25) & Alfonso Soriano (25).

Milwaukee is the only other club in the NL to match the same feat with Prince Fielder (35), Ryan Braun (33) & Corey Hart (25).

The last time the Cubs reached this same mark was 2004 when four players hit 25 or more HR: Moises Alou (39), Aramis (36), Sammy Sosa (35) & Derrek Lee (32).

-Carlos Pena has 99 walks this season, two of which came on Sunday in St. Louis. That’s the third most walks in the NL and sets the modern day record for a Cubs first baseman surpassing Mark Grace’s 95 free passes in 2000.

-Alfonso Soriano’s 24 RBI since August 27 ties him for the most in the NL by any player during that span.

His 85 total RBI for the season is his best mark ever with the Cubs and his most since knocking in 95 with Washington in 2006.

-Starlin Castro’s 37 consecutive games streak of reaching base safely breaks the Cubs 82-year-old record for a shortstop set by Woody English (34 straight) in 1929.

Castro has also hit safely in 46 of his last 51 games and leads the Dodgers Matt Kemp by 12 hits (203) for the NL hits title.

If Starlin can hold his lead over the final three games, he’ll become the youngest player ever to lead the Senior Circuit in hits over a single season.

Castro would also become the third Cub in the last seven years to win the NL hits crown joining Juan Pierre in 2006 and Derrek Lee in 2005.
