Engineered hardwood floors are a somewhat new form of wooden floors. It is a cross between wood laminate and traditional solid hardwood flooring. Prior to determination of type of flooring for you it is important to know a few facts about engineered hardwood.

Engineered hardwood is a type of wood flooring made of a hardwood or plywood core, topped with a veneer. This is different than wood laminate flooring, which is made of a resin having thereon an image of wood placed under a clear, hard coating. Engineered hardwood is also different from solid hardwood flooring, which is made mostly of ¾ inch thick planks cut from a solid piece of wood.

Engineered hardwood floors are made of real wood. Inner core of timber is made of different layers of solid wood or of plywood. On top of wood veneer is used to protect inner timber from elements, such as moisture and weather influences. This makes engineered hardwood flooring more durable and flexible than solid wood flooring.

Engineered hardwood floors are comparable to solid hardwood maintenance. Floor should be swept and mopped on a frequent basis. Leaks should be immediately wiped up as they fall. Engineered flooring comes with some natural protection against stains and damage, which makes it easier to maintain than traditional hardwood.
