That’s Delanie you’re looking at in the above picture. She’s a 22 year old, 5-foot Burmese Python.
I got up close and personal with the snake during a family wedding reception at the Cincinnati Zoo on New Year’s eve, and even rubbed shoulders with an Emperor Scorpion and a Great Horned Owl. All pretty cool for an animal nut like myself.
In between a wedding on Friday and the reception on Monday I caught three flicks during my short furlough in the Queen City: The Dictator (awful), Lincoln (very good) and The Shawshank Redemption (one of my all-time favorites).
But with the holiday season under wraps it’s time to get back to baseball and the Cubs. The convention is two weeks away and pitchers and catchers report in 40-days.
The long offseason is more than halfway over, but still leaves time for the Cubs to add the final touches to an already productive winter.
Given the personnel moves so far this offseason (roster & front office) it’s reasonable to believe the upcoming year will be more bearable than 2012, otherwise I’d rather be stung, clawed, bitten or squeezed by one of my new friends. Well, maybe.
